The Evangelist
The work is inspired by the Artist's fascination for St Luke, the evangelist and the patron saint of artists, among others. Christian tradition, states that Luke was the first icon painter and is said to have painted pictures of the Virgin Mary and Child. He is believed to have been a martyr and  is symbolized by a winged ox or bull – a figure of sacrifice, service and strength.
